Micromax is the first Indian company who launched smartphone with the brand name Micromax in India. It was founded as Micromax Informatics Ltd. in 2000. This company is based in Gurgaon. They started as an IT software company and later entered the mobile phone business in 2008. By 2010, Micromax became one of the largest Indian companies making mobile phones in the low budget feature mobile phone segment in India. As per data of 2014 Micromax is the 10th largest smartphone supplier in the world.
To the great surprise, Micromax launched X1i, their first mobile phone with a battery backup which could last for a month. This idea came into the mind of a founder of Micromax, because he once saw a public call office run by a truck battery, to have uninterrupted power supply.
In 2014, sales of Micromax exceeded the sales of Samsung. In January 2014 Micromax started sales in Russia.
Micromax had entered the tablet computer market in 2010, with the Funbook series. Micromax launched their first smartphone Canvas Knight A350 in January 2014 in Russia. They also launched the Android One smartphone Canvas A1 in the same year. They launched Micromax Canvas Sliver 5 in June 2015. This was the slimmest mobile phone in the world. Most of the Micromax phones are Android based. They launched two mobile phones with Microsoft Windows 8.1 in 2014. The one was Micromax Canvas Win W092 and the other was Micromax Canvas Win W121. After that they launched many models such as Micromax Amaze 2, Micromax Canvas Unite 4, Canvas Unite 4 Pro. The later two smartphones run on Indus OS 2.0. In August 2016 Micromax launched another model Canvas Unite 4 Plus in India.
Micromax started manufacturing LED TVs and tablets in 2014 at their factory in Rudrapur.
